The Band

‘The Feds’ as they are affectionately known, are one of the iconic brass bands of the city of Brisbane.  Formed in 1912 in the tradition of the great English brass bands, they have been entertaining the public for over 100 years, performing monthly in BCC parks as foundation members of the Bands In Parks programme which has been running since 1932.

The band is an integral part of the musical fabric of Brisbane and in recent times has been thrilling audiences with a blend of traditional and contemporary brass.  In the best tradition of the community ensemble, the band is made up of a wide mix of players of all ages and professions brought together by a love of making music.  Within the band you will find teachers, lawyers, engineers, students, tradesmen and professional musicians all dedicated to their craft.

The Feds are proudly involved in the ANZAC day parades, having played for troop trains throughout both world wars.  In 2012 they also marched in the Olympic Welcome Home parade.  To celebrate their centenary in 2012, the Feds launched an Australia wide Composition Competition to support and encourage locally written music.  Due to its success this has now become an annual event, ensuring that new local talent is showcased and supported.

With initiatives like this, the Feds are a new breed of brass players who are taking a century old iconic band into the modern era with vigour, enthusiasm and community spirit. The Feds are a very diverse ensemble and are available for corporate and private functions. Contact the band via This email address is being protected from spambots.
