Owen Clarke

Owen is an experienced conductor, adjudicator, clinician and music educator. He has gained a reputation as a dynamic and enthusiastic conductor and music director, a fair and decisive adjudicator, and an engaging MC and presenter of concerts and music for young people.

He has had a distinguished career as the Director of Music of the Royal New Zealand Air Force and Navy Bands, and as conductor of professional, amateur, tertiary and youth level bands, orchestras and ensembles in both Australia and New Zealand. Owen is passionate about music education, seeing him adjudicate and conduct workshops at various international youth music festivals, eisteddfods, band championships and schools around the world.

After learning the violin from a young age and attaining his Associate Diploma, Trinity College of London (ATCL), he went on to complete his Bachelor of Music at Victoria University, New Zealand, majoring in performance trombone. On completion of his degree and overseas study, he worked as a freelance musician and has played trombone with all the professional orchestras in New Zealand. Owen is one of only a few musicians to be awarded a Fellowship from the Royal Schools of Music in Conducting (FRSM), and has also completed a Graduate Diploma in Conducting.

Owen has recorded three acclaimed Wind Band CD’s and has also collaborated on albums with various other vocal and instrumental artists.
